About this Event

https://www.shrs.pitt.edu/mscrmhcThe University of Pittsburgh Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling Graduate Program will be holding an interactive workshop on Delivering Difficult News. The undergraduate level workshop will be led by faculty of the University of Pittsburgh Counseling Program. Lunch and refreshments will be provided!
Counselors and other helping professionals are often tasked with delivering difficult news. For example, a counselor may need to inform parents that their child has autism, help a spouse disclose infidelity to a partner, or notify a client that a needed resource is not available. Delivering difficult news is one of the most anxiety provoking tasks new counselors face. This workshop will highlight the importance of developing therapeutic rapport with clients, especially the role of empathy in the counselor-client relationship. Attendees will be taught a step-by-step approach for conveying difficult news in the best possible way. Attendees will practice their clinical skills in a supportive environment.
