Daughter of Family G

Abstract: Novelist and essayist Ami McKay writes that “while genetic testing can open doors to preventative health care and screenings, it’s also one heck of a Pandora’s Box filled with worry and what ifs. After living with my results for nearly two decades, I decided it was time to share my story.” Daughter of Family G tells that story, recounting her family’s experience with hereditary cancer, the search for “the gene,” and the physically, financially, mentally, and emotionally complex life that follows receiving results of genetic testing for Lynch syndrome.

A reading guide for her memoir is available here. Information to attend her online lecture will be available soon.

This event is approved for Pitt Public Health Grand Rounds credit
