Data Sharing for Open Science

This is a past event.

“Open Science” is a widespread movement or initiative within science which seeks, among other goals, to make research materials (e.g., articles, datasets, software) freely available to the academic community and general public. Central to this goal is the activity of data sharing, undertaken by individual PIs, which means to post one’s data online in a freely accessible and persistent repository, often at the conclusion of a project or upon publication of a paper. Funders and publishers are increasingly seeking submissions whose data are shared. In this online, 20-minute presentation, we’ll discuss why data sharing matters, examples of and techniques for finding sites for deposit, and a brief description of dataset preparation. D-Scholarship, Pitt’s institutional repository for all research outputs, will be shown. Time will be available for Q&A.
