https://teaching.pitt.edu/center-for-mentoring/The Culturally Aware Mentoring (CAM) Workshop, developed by the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER), focuses on fostering inclusive excellence in academia through advanced mentorship training. This workshop addresses the challenges of cultural diversity, with an emphasis on race and its intersections with identity. Designed for mentors who have completed foundational mentorship education, it provides tools to navigate complex conversations and improve mentoring practices. Participation in prior mentor training, such as Pitt’s Mentoring Academy or equivalent, is a prerequisite. If you’re looking to enhance your mentoring skills and support a more inclusive academic environment, this workshop is an excellent opportunity.
This workshop includes two in-person half-day sessions on March 28 and April 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Attendance at both sessions is required.
Participants will be able to:
Guest Facilitator: April Dukes, Institutional Co-leader for Pitt-CIRTL (Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning) and the Faculty and Future Faculty Program Director for the Engineering Educational Research Center (EERC)
If you do not meet the prerequisite mentorship education for the CAM workshop, shorter courses may be a better fit. Options covering cultural diversity in mentorship are available through the National Research Mentoring Network and the University of Minnesota’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute.
