Her research program is focused on improving evidence-based care delivery for critically ill patients during and after critical illness. She practices as a critical care physician at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist and serves as the Associate Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit and Medical Director of Sepsis.
Dr. Palakshappa completed medical school and pulmonary and critical care fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, where she received a Master’s of Science degree in Clinical Epidemiology. She joined the faculty at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 2017. She has expertise in using mixed methods and implementation science theory to design and test care delivery programs in the acute care setting and during recovery from critical illness. Her work is supported by the National Institute on Aging (K23 award), Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences.
