Creative Gardening for Any Space

Gardens can thrive in small urban spaces, patios, containers and larger suburban yards. Explore how to choose the plants you are most interested in growing and find the best spot for them that your space has to offer. This will allow you to create habitat and enjoy the pleasures of gardening. Tips for selecting and growing fruits, vegetables, perennials, and natives will be covered.

  • Guest Speaker:
    • Heather Manzo is the Executive Director of the Allegheny County Conservation District (ACCD), which is a regulatory entity that works at the nexus of soil and water to protect our natural resources. Prior to ACCD, she worked in higher education as a regional food systems and community economic development consultant. She is also co-founder and Emeritus Steering Committee member of the Pittsburgh Food Policy Council and serves on the board of Hilltop Urban Farm. Heather holds a Master’s of Science in Agroecology and Sustainable Systems, practices permaculture and urban ag at her home, tends to grow pumpkin patches in her front yard and documents the plants and people of wild places armed with hiking boots, a camera, and plenty of trail mix.
