This workshop invites instructors to reflect on how student performance is shaped by learning environments and access to opportunity. By shifting the conversation from achievement gaps to opportunity gaps—the distribution of resources, experiences, and learning opportunities—participants will explore how active learning pedagogies can support more inclusive and engaging classrooms, especially for students who have been historically marginalized in higher education.

  • Consider student performance through an opportunity-gap lens by examining how educational inputs, not just outcome shape learning.
  • Explore evidence-based active learning strategies that support inclusive access to learning experiences, with particular attention to students from minoritized backgrounds.
