Conversation Games with Virtual Humans

Presentation by Dr. Thomas B. Talbot, MD, MS, FAAP

Abstract: Artificial Intelligence & Natural Language Processing technologies now permit engaging conversational simulations. Dr. Talbot discusses virtual humans, interactive conversational technology and shares exciting applications for conversational games & simulations such as medical simulations, difficult conversations, motivational interviewing & several other applications.

 

BIO: Dr. Talbot is the Principal Medical Expert at the USC Institute for Creative Technologies and associate research professor at Keck School of Medicine of USC. Dr. Talbot was the founder of the Armed Forces Simulation Institute for Medicine at the Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center and established, at the Department of Defense, the nation’s largest medical education focused research and development program, encompassing more than 150 projects under his leadership. He has been at the center of many of the nation’s major medical simulation R&D efforts, including the Combat Casualty Training Consortia, the BioGears public physiology engine and the advanced modular manikin program. At the ICT Medical Virtual Reality Laboratory (MedVR), he is designing the next generation of virtual standardized patients and exploring virtual reality interactive science for medical and educational applications. He is a prominent figure in the medical simulation community, having personally created or contributed to forty-five medical training applications. Dr. Talbot is a veteran of the US Army with war deployment experience and has more than 20 years’ experience as a medical education developer.
