Fifth Ave at Bigelow, Pittsburgh, 15213

Hosted by the Humanities Center and graduate fellow, Christine Choi. Respondents include Lidong Xiang from the English Department and Sujin Kim, Assistant Professor of Art at Arizona State University. This event will be hybrid, so you can attend it either in person in 602 CL or via Zoom as you prefer.

The “co-creative iterative writing process” integrates autoethnography, oral history, performance studies, and Conquergood’s (1985) concept of “dialogic performance” to bridge interdisciplinary gaps between researchers and creators and reveal the often hidden, iterative aspects of scholarly writing. Inspired by Choi’s interview with Sujin Kim, this method fosters an inclusive, non-extractive approach where scholars present preliminary research to artists and engage in semi-structured dialogue together. This process allows scholars and creators to exchange insights and critiques of both the art and scholarly writing. Additionally, this method encourages scholars to iteratively refine their analyses, incorporate artist perspectives, and reflexively document their research journey.

Precirculated material for this colloquium will be available here about two weeks prior and up to the event.
