Abstract: Engineering teaches us how to solve problems, but applying that mindset beyond the lab can lead to unexpected career paths. In this talk, Blake Dube, CEO of Aeronics, Inc., shares his journey from chemical engineering student to startup founder, detailing how a classroom project evolved into a company that has transformed veterinary care.

Through the lens of launching Pawprint Oxygen, Blake will discuss the realities of product development, commercialization, and scaling a business—from early failures and pivots to securing funding and building a team. This seminar will challenge students to think beyond traditional engineering roles, embrace uncertainty, and explore how their technical skills can drive innovation in unexpected ways.

Short Bio: Blake Dubé is the CEO and Founder of Aeronics, Inc., a Pittsburgh-based company specializing in oxygen systems for the veterinary market. Aeronics’ products are used in thousands of veterinary hospitals and homes across the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Recently, their pet oxygen masks were used to treat pets and wildlife affected by the wildfires in and around Los Angeles.

Blake developed the idea for Aeronics while studying chemical engineering at Pitt, where he engaged in undergraduate research, fellowships, and business competitions, including his work in the Wilmer Lab. All of these experiences led Blake to start the company with his mentor, Dr. Chris Wilmer, and his life-long friend, Mark.

Blake's accolades include Pittsburgh Business Times 30 Under 30, The Incline Animal Advocate, and Eagle Scout. He lives in Pittsburgh’s South Side with his incredible wife, Hailey.
