It will feature John Carlos, former US track and field athlete who is recognized for his protest at the 1968 Summer Olympics where he, along with Tommie Smith, displayed the Black Power Salute. This was a silent protest of the racism and economic depression that was ongoing in America. They were then banned from the Olympic Village and forcibly removed from the United States Olympic team and became a significant symbol of the Civil Rights struggle. This will be an opportunity to hear more about his journey while engaging in media produced by Department of Film and Media Studies for an overall engaging event.
