Please join us for Critical Care Medicine Grand Rounds on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at noon in the Rangos Conference Center at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP) and on Zoom Webinar.

 

Dr. Ryan Barbaro is a pediatric critical care physician, health services researcher and implementation scientist.  His research seeks to improve the short- and long-term outcomes for children requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Dr. Barbaro is currently leading the NIH-funded study ASCEND (ARDS in Children and ECMO initiation strategies’ impact on Neuro-Development). ASCEND aims to characterize the one-year outcomes of ECMO-supported children and aims to address the question of if and when ECMO should be initiated in children with severe lung injury called pediatric acute respiratory distress syndrome. He is a member of the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) Board of Directors and Co-Chair of Pedi-ECMO
