Kanecia Zimmerman, MD, PhD, MPH, is the Wilburt C Davison Professor of Pediatrics at Duke University. She is a faculty member in the Duke Pediatric Division of Critical Care Medicine and at the Duke Clinical Research Institute. She also serves as the Associate Director of Engagement and Health Translation for the Duke Clinical and Translational Science Institute. Dr. Zimmerman’s work has focused on community partnered approaches to clinical research, as well as the optimal conduct of clinical trials in children and adults, including improving participant and family engagement throughout the trial life cycle and enhancing participant and workforce representation in this space. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Zimmerman co-founded the ABC Science Collaborative to unite scientists and K-12 schools in service of children and families. Currently, she serves as the principal investigator of the RECOVER Clinical Trials and Data Coordinating Center, leading NIH’s first national efforts to conduct clinical trials in Long COVID. Throughout her career, Dr. Zimmerman’s work has been funded by the FDA, NIH, and multiple philanthropic organizations. She is also passionate about mentoring the next generation of physician scientists and leads a T32 training grant.
