https://www.engineering.pitt.edu/departments/bioengineering/campbioe/Hosted annually by the Department of Bioengineering since 2007, CampBioE 2.0 inspires the next generation of scientific and medical professionals by fostering sustained engagement in STEM⁺ through hands-on bioengineering experiences and mentorship. Expanded in 2024 under the leadership of Dr. Katrina Knight to include elementary school students alongside middle and high school scholars, CampBioE 2.0 builds on the legacy of CampBioE to create a continuous STEM⁺ pipeline from elementary through high school. Together, the programs have reached more than 1,200 scholars from Western Pennsylvania and beyond over the past 18 years, with many alumni going on to pursue STEM⁺ careers—including bioengineering—and even joining organizations that supported the camp. This summer, the program will again partner with the Vascular Medicine Institute’s VESSELS program, led by Dr. Daniel Shiwarski, to offer high school scholars hands-on training in 3D bioprinting and advanced bioengineering techniques.
