CALL FOR ABSTRACTS, 2020 HEALTH DISPARITIES POSTER COMPETITION

Call for abstracts for the 2020 Health Disparities Poster Competition.  Submission deadline, Friday, February 14th, 2020.  The event will take place on Thursday, March 26th, from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm, in the BSTWR South Lobby.  University of Pittsburgh Schools of the Health Sciences graduate, doctoral, postdoctoral trainees, and first professional students in the biomedical and behavioral sciences, including Psychology and Social Work, are invited to submit abstracts for the competition.  The event is sponsored by the Schools of the Health Sciences, this event will give young researchers an opportunity to present their work and expand their scientific professional skill set.  The term "disparities" applies to differences in health status in any studied population compared to the comparable majority (or more commonly studied) population.  We expect to see work in disparities based upon race or ethnicity, gender, disability, sexual orientation, age, and other parameters.  Prospective abstracts submitters must be University of Pittsburgh graduate or first professional students, or postdoctoral trainees.  They must have conducted research (qualitative, quantitative, or laboratory based) and developed results in one of the fourteen scientific disciplines.  These are Biological Sciences, Cell Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Developmental Biological Sciences, Microbiological Sciences, Molecular Biological Sciences, Nursing, Neuroscience, Physical Sciences and Mathematics, Physiological Sciences, Psychology/Psychological Sciences, Public Health, Social Sciences, and Rehabilitation Sciences.  $100.00 prizes will be awarded in four categories:  Masters, Doctoral, Postdoctoral, and First Professional.  Posters also accespted for community-based initiatibes designed to address health disparities.  Students from the disciplines above are elegible to exhibit.  One $100.00 prize given for initiative judged to be the best, or to have the greatest potential for impact.  All abstracts must be submitted electronically to diversity@hs.pitt.edu no later than Friday, February 14th, 2020, by end of day.  Authors of abstracts accepted for psoter presentations will be notified by Monday, February 24th, 2020, and will receive further guidelines for preparation of posters.  For         more information, please contact mam524@pitt.edu, or 412-648-2066.
