Prof. Annette Joseph-Gabriel’s book Reimagining Liberation: How Black Women Transformed Citizenship in the French Empire (University of Illinois Press, 2020) brings to the fore the often-unacknowledged leadership of Black women in anticolonial movements in France, Africa, and the Caribbean. Moderated by graduate students, the discussion will focus on the peculiarities of black female activists in crafting intersectional feminist movements.
