The Roles of Allies, Advocates, and Accomplices in Equity and Inclusion

Presenters: Staci K. Hegarty

This workshop is an exploratory, introductory discussion on Allies, Advocates, & Accomplices in America. As the conversation about diversity, equity, and inclusion deepens, it is necessary to develop a practical understanding of the roles of Allies, Advocates, & Accomplices and how to use privilege to advance the goal of equity and inclusion for everyone. In this workshop, we aim to explore the functional necessity of Allies, Advocates, & Accomplices and how to turn good intentions into impactful actions. Participants will learn:

  • The differences between Allies, Advocates, & Accomplices, best practices on how to best navigate the environment, and how to evolve from Ally to Advocate to Accomplice.
  • Why Allies, Advocates, & Accomplices matter and understanding their place in our current world.
  • The facets of Allies, Advocates, & Accomplices from foundations of research, opening the door to discussions on an equitable future.
  • What not do in the name of it, preventing any damage or detriment to you and others.
  • How best to navigate each of these roles in your personal and professional life.
