Becoming a Grading Guru: Designing Better Test Questions

The traditional multiple choice exam are often viewed as less challenging than other types of assessments. Tests with objective questions can be effective when the questions are well-designed and inspire critical thinking. During this workshop, we’ll explore how to create better objective test questions (true/false, multiple choice, matching, fill in the blank) and practice composing clear and rigorous test questions. This workshop will focus on effective test question design, but will include a brief demonstration of the quiz maker tool in Canvas.

This is the third workshop in the Becoming a Grading Guru series. The series includes:
1. The Grading Process and Providing Effective Feedback
2. Designing Rubrics
3. Designing Better Test Questions

Participants may complete the entire series or choose individual workshops to develop specific knowledge and skills. We recommend that participants enroll in the first workshop Becoming a Grading Guru: Effective Grading and Feedback which includes an overview of grading best practices and fundamentals. Workshops in this series may count towards completion of the Pedagogy Badge.

All workshops will be conducted via Zoom Eastern time.

Please register to attend by midnight on June 25. We are unable to accept same-day registrations at this time.
