Abstract: It often seems counterintuitive when a patient opts not to follow clinical recommendations. Refusals can create questions in the minds of clinicians regarding the decision-making ability of patients as well as when treatment over objection is appropriate. This session will explore the ethical issues associated with expecting patients to say "yes," and morally supportable approaches to continued care when the answer is "no."
