This workshop, facilitated by Sam Pittman, investigates the systemic approaches to anti-ableist pedagogy in the classroom and Pitt learning community. This workshop aims to discuss the foundational principles of anti-ableist pedagogy, as well as practical applications in the classroom, through three central questions:

  • What does it mean to be anti-ableist?
  • How can we recognize ableism within our instructional practices, tools (syllabi, course content, etc.), and community to become active allies for students of all abilities?
  • How can we design lesson plans and class activities that promote anti-ableism in our day-to-day practices with students?
