Storytelling within and beyond Cultural Rhetorics

This presentation explores storytelling as a method for rhetorical inquiry and broader changemaking. Jo will discuss the multidisciplinary influences that inform their approach to stories—including trans and crip of color critique, critical race counterstory, and queer diaspora studies. They’ll share how these theories come together in their approach to “homing” in Constellating Home, and how they’ve adapted their methods for narrative-based projects within and beyond academic settings.

V. Jo Hsu (they/them) is an assistant professor of Rhetoric & Writing at the University of Texas at Austin and the author of Constellating Home: Trans and Queer Asian American Rhetorics. The questions driving their work are: What can the field(s) of rhetoric do to foster connection and care across difference?
