The last ten years have seen enormous advances in AI technologies. This progress has made AI an attractive tool to many, and has resulted in its swift adoption across a range of fields and disciplines. But while AI represents powerful potential, it also brings with it the risk of real harm. As information professionals, library workers have a responsibility to equip themselves with knowledge about this technology and the implications of its widespread use.

Public and academic library and archives workers, community data workers, and students are invited to join us for this interactive workshop to discuss the use of AI in their institutions, assess the risks AI poses to vulnerable populations, and share resources for continued learning.

Speaker Bio: Tess Wilson is a librarian and educator with a focus on digital literacy and information democracy. She is the deputy director of Library Freedom Project and her work was most recently featured in ACRL’s Data Literacy Cookbook. Beyond her library work she is a teaching artist, environmental educator, and zine enthusiast.
