About this Event
Cathedral of Learning
Academic freedom and freedom of speech have a complex historical relationship. University autonomy, faculty rights to teach and research and espouse political views outside the classroom have been seen as “givens”. Present-day conflict between the right to speak and the impact of the speech act is under active scrutiny. Join University of Pittsburgh faculty Sheila Vélez Martinez (Law), Kristin Kanthak (Political Science), and Carnegie Mellon professor Jonathan Caulkins (Heinz College) for a discussion of these pertinent and timely topics. Moderated by Mario Browne, Associate Dean for Equity, Engagement, and Justice; Associate Professor, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, School of Pharmacy, University of Pittsburgh. Light fare and refreshments will be provided. Virtual access is available.
This town hall is hosted by the Office for Health Sciences Diversity. Equity and Inclusion and the Center on Race and Social Problems.
