During her research at the archive, Maria viewed archival materials and compared scripts from August Wilson’s play Gem of the Ocean. She used this information as inspiration for her quilt.
Maria will present her quilt and give a talk at this special event that you don’t want to miss! Bring your family, and friends for this one-day presentation of Maria’s Gem of the Ocean inspired quilt titled A Memoir.
This project draws inspiration from Aunt Ester’s quilt, which acts as a map directing people to the mythical land of “The City of Bones”. Maria’s quilt displays different squares of fabric representing her childhood as well as her family’s legacy. She wanted to mix her family’s history with her passions for both theatre and quilting.
This event is FREE and open to the public.
