A Center for Social Dynamics and Community Health workshop featuring Spruha Joshi and her research on the impact of drug policies and how their intended and unintended impacts influence health equity and related disparities. She will discuss both concluded and ongoing work across multiple domains, including the overdose crisis (supply-side opioid policies and harm reduction policies) and the increasingly permissive cannabis legalization landscape. The research presented will focus on outcomes including fatal drug overdoses and arrests and methods such as spatiotemporal models and the synthetic control method. Joshi's talk will also describe plans for future research, which will expand the current understanding of the impact of drug policy by moving beyond th examination of state-level policies to an examination of the local policy environment.
