BAS VAN FRAASSEN TO RECEIVE 2025 RESCHER MEDAL
The University of Pittsburgh announces its award of the 2025 Nicholas Rescher Medal for Contributions to Systematic Philosophy to Bas van Fraassen, the McCosh Professor of Philosophy, Emeritus at Princeton University and Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at San Francisco State University. Professor van Fraassen has written extensively in the philosophy of science and logic.
The Nicholas Rescher Medal was established by the University of Pittsburgh in 2010 in honor of a distinguished philosophy professor who served the institution for over sixty years. It is awarded biennially and previous recipients are Ernest Sosa of Rutgers University, Alvin Plantinga of Calvin College, Jürgen Mittelstrass of the University of Konstanz, Hilary Putnam of Harvard University, Ruth Millikan of the University of Connecticut, Philip Kitcher of Columbia University, Thomas Nagel of New York University, and Christine Korsgaard of Harvard University
