About this Event
3942 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15260
https://neweastcinema.pitt.edu/The New East Film Symposium is a non-commercial academic event organized by Pitt graduate students since 1999. This year’s focus is documentary cinema from Eastern Europe, Russia, and Central Asia. The screenings explore the unstable borders and volatile experiences of “home” in war’s aftermath and of ethno-national violence in the region.
Our poster captures a moment of flocking (murmuration); we propose it as a metaphor for the current state of two global crises: human mobility and natural cycles.
Funding for the New East Symposium was provided by Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (Title VI) | Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences (Oleon Family Fund) | University Center for International Studies | Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures | Film and Media Studies Program | European Studies Center | Cultural Studies Program | The Graduate Organization for the Study of Europe and Central Asia.
