The Department of French and Italian seeks to produce research and inform knowledge about language and culture in a broad, trans-disciplinary way. Through innovative education, undergraduate and graduate students gain linguistic and cultural competency necessary for meaningful engagement with the subject. Comprehensive instruction in the linguistic, literary, philosophical, and cultural traditions of the French- and Italian-speaking world allow students a greater self-awareness and sense of responsibility in a global world.
