Emerging from student and community demands for a culturally relevant curriculum, the mission of the Department of Africana Studies is to advance the study, research, interpretation, production, and dissemination of knowledge pertaining to the experiences of people of African descent in Africa and the Diaspora. From these perspectives, we are committed to innovated scholarship, excellence in student development, and community empowerment and transformation.
